How the pioneer became the master of the baking industry

HYDROVOIMA OY was established in 1958. In the beginning, there were two innovative men, Mr. Suominen and Mr. Laitinen. They were famous about their ability to create new ideas. Among other things they won the second price in the International Inventor´s Exhibition in Brussels in 1960. The innovation was a hydraulic piston without cam shaft. It is used today for instance in paper machines.

One of the biggest bakeries in the region contacted these two brave men in the early 60´s. The men got a challenge: RYE DOUGH HAD TO BE HANDLED BY A MACHINE, because the sales of rye bread had soared, and there were just not enough of bakers to make bread by hand. Mr Suominen and Mr Laitinen knew nothing about baking at that time, so they started from a blank sheet. They soon came with some fresh ideas, which were rejected right away by the bakers. Anyhow, they were stubborn and realized the new kind of machine.

It turned out to be a jackpot for the bakeries. It was also the real beginning of the mechanization of Finnish bakeries. HYDROVOIMA concentrated now on the development of bakery machines. The first rye dough machine "KANTTI" was produced in big volume. New innovations kept coming every year from the company HYDROVOIMA. In the 70´s, there were more than 150 different original designs for bakery equipment, from crate washing machines to fat fryers.

In the beginning of the 80´s a totally new type of machine saw the light - the VE DOUGH SHEETER. It was developed to handle a very sticky and thin dough containing potatoe: the "lompe" of Norway. The VE DOUGH SHEETER started a 20- year long success. THIS FIRST AUTOMATIC, INDUSTRIAL CONTINUOUS SHEETER HAS EVEN TODAY NO REAL CHALLENGERS.

HYDROVOIMA developed make-up lines also for PASTRY, PIZZA, THIN BREAD AND SHORT DOUGHS based on the VE DOUGH SHEETER. The sales soon spread to Sweden, Norway and France. Today HYDROVOIMA is the market leader in industrial dough sheeting lines in Scandinavia and France. HYDROVOIMA has already reached the next step as a global company, with first references in Canada, USA and India.
